Dino Dossier: Hyaenodon

Common Name: Hyaenodon
Species: Hyaenodon Dirus
Time: Late Eocene - Early Miocene
Diet: Carnivore
Temperament: Opportunistic
Domestication
Tameable: Yes
Rideable: No
Command:
  • Wild: Among the island's tenacious pack hunters is Hyaenodon Dirus, a carnivore most often found across the mountains and tundras, in packs of 3 to 5. The Hyaenodon is a very intelligent predator: before engaging, it determines if the payoff for a fight is worth the risk of injury.

  • Domesticated: Despite being too small to ride, Hyaenodon are still popular pets. Their intelligence means they train well, and their natural pack strength makes them excellent hunting dogs. Their capability to quickly recover health by consuming raw flesh off the bone ensures they can take much punishment and yet continue fighting. A common (and terrifying) sight on the tundra is a rider on a canis with a pack of Hyaenodon at it’s side, howls and jeers echoing through the night.

  • Known Information: Hyaenodon often prefer not to fight unless there is already weakened prey nearby, or a fresh carccass. This temperament changes quickly, though, near the presence of injured or dying creatures. Hyaenodon quickly becomes very aggressive, and the pack attacks with ruthless abandon. With each vicious chomp of scavenged meat, the Hyaenodon rapidly recovers health and stamina.

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 225.3 & 225.4

225.3

  • Fixed crash that could occur in some cases with Boa‘s/Sarco‘s (swamps) multi-threaded animation updates (client-side)

225.4

  • Proning and Crouching now reduce Enemy Dino Visibility Range by 40% and and 20% respectively (stacks with Ghillie Suit… stealth kill time 😉
  • Changed anti-stuck logic to not affect players, only Dinos. Was causing super-velocity and killing some players during re-connection.

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 225.1 & 225.2

225.1

Changes

  • Increased 4x Turkey spawn rate
  • Dodorex dossier now given when claiming dodorex

Fixes

  • Fixed Turkeys erroneously “ally” aggro’ing tamed dinos (including other players tamed dinos in pve, etc)
  • Fixed “death by tree” if you knock down a tree you got stuck on (will deal with the sticking itself soon)
  • Fixed poops not appearing at low server fps
  • Fixed dinos moving sometimes when you dismount them on a saddle-platform

225.2

Fixes

  • Fixed Gravity not working in some cases — yes, Isaac Newton is ashamed 😛
  • Fixed an old case of getting stuck on trees and such when jumping — now you should automatically get hopped out of the stuck position, if this occurs.

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 225

Unversioned Hotfix: Clients enabled multi-threaded animations for CPU savings.
Unversioned Hotfix: Fixed a way that server or singleplayer game loading could crash if someone had placed Structures on a Dino from a mod that was uninstalled.

  • New Structure: Industrial Forge
  • ARK: Turkey Trial (Limited Time Event)
  • ~15% client-side CPU optimization! (Added New Option Menu checkbox “Use Simple Distance Movement” , set it for less quality movement on distance creatures but significant CPU savings.)

Dino Dossier: Woolly Rhino

Common Name Woolly Rhino
Species Coelodonta utiliserro
Time Late Pliocene-Late Pleistocene
Diet Herbivore
Temperament Friendly
Domestication
Tameable Yes
Rideable Yes
  • Wild: Coelodonta utiliserro is a friendly herbivore, common to the tundra and grassland regions of the island. It is a large and dangerous creature, thought it seems fairly trusting of the fauna around it. Once attacked, Coelodonta charges towards its foe. It builds up momentum as it charges, and depending on its ultimate impact speed, the results can be terrifying. With enough room to charge, it can even skewer the largest creatures in just one single gore!

  • Domesticated: When not being hunted for its horns, Coelodonta makes an excellent beast of burden. Its ability to take on far larger opponents provided sufficient charging room, as well as its sizable load capacity, make it a solid addition to any trader party or gathering expedition.

  • Known Information: Despite how powerful Coelodonta are, many tribes still hunt them extensively due to their unique resources. Its horns can be ground into a highly arousing powder, and its thick fur can support many insulating outfits, making the Coelodonta much in demand. Even less advanced tribes use packs to hunt them down, though at significant peril.

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 224.3

  • Fixed issue with Paraceratherium‘s legs colliding with his own platform structures
  • Fixed issue with Parasaurus not being attacked by wild dinos (requires server update)
  • “Tribe-Owned/Admin-Demolish” Governance Setting no longer allows Non-Admins to Replace Tribe Structures (as that is akin to Demolishing)

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 224.2

Fixes

  • You can no longer place wall-structures on doors
  • You can now place wall-items (torches etc) on pillars
  • Fixed offset of Compy egg spawns
  • Fixed lockup when reloading savegame while crafting recipes (we recommend servers update to 224.2!)
  • Recipes:
    • Fixed some ingredient scale values, and made all ingredients 5x as effective globally, and made Crafting Speed skill 2x more effective for recipe quality (yeah, Crafting Speed skill directly effects Recipe stats!). Will expose recipe ingredient effect scale and recipe crafting skill scale as Server configurable values in next Major version (requires networking change).
    • Made Crafting Skill visible on the Recipe’s Tooltip for comparison (this is Crafting Skill at the time of recipe creation 😉.
