Instructions for perfect breeding & basic informations on babies

You know from the previous Tutorial “How to get Babies in ARK”  how to get Fertilized Eggs and how you can incubate them, but why  should you do this? Here you get some basic informations, how the Stat-Values of the Baby are produced and what color  the Baby will get.

The Parents don’t have to be “in-Tribe” to mate, they just have to be non-aggressed and tamed and in proximity. So a Tribe could loan out their prized breeding dinos, and both Tribes split the resulting eggs, etc.

Babies are unclaimed initially, so you should “Imprint” on them to claim them after birth. Babies initially have extremely low health and carrying capacity and food, so you need to carefully feed and take care of them in their first moments of life, or they’ll soon die. They dynamically can carry more, gain more HP, and food capacity, as they mature over time.  They have a maturation progress bar on their HUD, which they grow in real-time:

 Babies < 10% < Juvenile < 50% < Adolescent < 100% Mature

And oh yeah the younger a baby is, the corresponding less resources it gives if u harvest it, but the more chance of prime meat you get. Newborns are pretty much guaranteed to give a couple primes >:D

Sooo… now we get to the interesting part:

How does the baby get the Stats-Values?

The Baby’s base stats are a random combination of its parents’ base (original pre-tamed) stats, and so are its colors. The better base stat will be chosen with a probability of 70%.

Example: Baby with 2 Max-Base-Stats-Values:

Triceratops Male

HP Max Value
Stamina a
Attack Damage b
Inventory Weight c

Triceratops Female

HP d
Stamina Max Value
Attack Damage e
Inventory Weight f

possible Triceratops Baby (chance 49%)

HP Max Value
Stamina Max Value
Attack Damage b or e
Inventory Weight c or f

This Baby can now mate (once grown) with another Triceratops with max Attack Damage and max Inventory Weight to breed for a Baby with 4 max Base-Stats with a chance of 24%.

By using this selective breeding, you can breed out the stats you don’t want, breed in the ones you do, and eventually with enough effort, breed a complete max-base-statted Uber-Dino… and let the world shudder!

  1. Hi. I wondered if there is a list of what dinos that will be tameable at this first release?
And when it comes to mammals.. will they drop eggs also?

  2. Well the breeding system got f….. buy dev its been more that 30 hrs and barely 45% since they introduce that giga. breeding system not working 26hrs for ptera to mature

      1. I think there is no “list” with max stats – you have to compare some Dino base stats (of the same race) and choose the one with the highest value in the stat you want to achieve high stats in your babies

  3. The guy who wrote this obviously doesn’t get grammar. Here are a few exaples:

    “Example for a baby”
“How gets the baby the Stats-Values?”
“The better base stat will be choose with a probability of 70%”

I mean, what the heck man? If you write something on a good website, use good English.

    1. I´m sorry my english isn´t perfect – I´m german. You´re right that there were some really bad grammar failures. I´m always thankful when someone tells me my mistakes. Wish you a nice day!

    1. We wrote “The Baby’s base stats are a random combination of its parents’ base (original pre-tamed) stats, and so are its colors. The better base stat will be chosen with a probability of 70%.” so we didnt say that they can get higer stat than the parents. it can combine the best stats when you´re lucky 🙂 but not higher than the best stats of each parent

  4. I agree. However, this sentence is not true and should be removed:
“By using this selective breeding, you can breed out the stats you don’t want, breed in the ones you do, and eventually with enough effort, breed a complete max-base-statted Uber-Dino”

    1. We have been doing exactly this with our Rexs…only our health stat is lacking. Currently on the hunt for a 120 with over a 4800 pretame health stat (given the randomized bonus levels stats get allocated to health), highest post-tame health we have is 6400.

  5. How do I care for a juvenile that was plucked straight from the wild? I have no specifics on what he wants, all its giving me is “juvenile megaloceros wants care from !” I’ve heard that this means I can’t do anything, even while the pacifier is blinking over his head, but he’ll continue to mature. Is that true, or is he a lost cause? (I’d feel reeeally bad if this little guy ended up dying because I couldn’t figure out that I needed to hug in time or something…)

  6. I play on The xbox one edition and need help with the needs care timer, I would like it to be shorter and every time i try to shorten it it wont work. Is it broken on the xbox or something if so could someone let me know please tell me what I’m doing wrong. P.S. I set the cuddle interval at 0.015

  7. Ya tengo dos crías con max stast ahora como Cómo Mes lo para la siguiente generación ya lo intenté y me salen con las estadísticas de los abuelos que hago
