ARK: Survival Evolved Modding Contest Winners – Total Conversions

TOTAL CONVERSIONS

1. Tribe Wars

Tribe wars is a thrilling game mode that offers a PVP-based experience that stays true to the core of what ARK is.  The objective is simple; defend your flag while trying to destroy your enemies flag.  The comprehensiveness of this total conversion and the talent that went into creating it did not go unnoticed.  It is tons of fun and we had the pleasure of taking it for a spin!

2. ARK Moon Survival

There isn’t enough that can be said about the creativity and talent that went into creating this Total Conversion.  It’s an unbelievable entry and we were amazed by the user interface and subtle touches that were put into this experience.  Although it’s an astonishing feat in its current state, we look forward to what other experiences that will be created while trying to survive on the Moon.

3. Otherworld

This total conversion pits you against waves of terrifying creatures as you try to escape what is known as the Otherworld.  It’s always nice to play a different game mode for ARK and Otherworld is  one of the few that are available in the workshop.  We loved the style of this entry with its distinct and unique level design.

ARK: Survival Evolved Modding Contest Winners – Maps

MAPS

1. Valhalla

You wouldn’t be able to tell the map is only 80% complete if you’ve ever had the pleasure of exploring Valhalla.  With land mass and water area 6 times that of the normal island,  it’s enough to keep you exploring for days.  The amount of work that went into creating this map is nothing to underestimate.  Beautiful vistas and abundant areas of exploration makes this a community and dev favorite!

2. Roraima

Although Roraima doesn’t have the following of some of the other maps in the workshop, it absolutely blew us away!  The naturalistic land formations and the strategic layout of this map makes it a standout entry in the category.  While it isn’t as big as some of the other maps, it is clearly a map that makes you feel like you’ve been transported to a real-life area in the world. The team were literally shocked at the natural beauty in this map.

3. Umassoura

Ummassoura is another massive map that is a truly unique entry in the map category.  We were taken back by the massive caves, breathtaking waterfalls, and diversity in the creatures that live in each of the uniquely placed biomes. The level of detail and care that was taken in creating this map was evident and greatly acknowledged by the team.

4. Madagaskar Evolved

There aren’t many maps that make you feel as if you are in a specific place in the world.  We fell in love with Madagascar Evolved and its ability to accomplish this with its stylistic approach in its level design.  Immediately we felt as if we were flown to a safari in the middle of Africa and left to survive with the vicious animals that call it home. We see a very bright future for Madagascar Evolved!

5. WickWillow

Wick Willow gave us an unforgettable experience when exploring its unique set of biomes.  Each biome is distinctly different from the next which provides for an interesting set of challenges and gameplay experiences.  We walked away with an appreciation for the strategic vision that went into the creation of this stunning map.

6. Honorable Mention – Epic Islands

We couldn’t think of a better name to describe this map.  It’s vast landmass provides the perfect opportunity for exploring and building an epic base.  Although it’s still a work in progress, one can’t help but to imagine what this map will look like once it’s complete.  I know we’ll be keeping our eye out!

The Center Map DLC is available!

The Center is now available for PC & Mac & Steamplay!

The Center is a free add-on for ARK: Survival Evolved that includes a massive new map for survivors to explore, nearly double the size of the playable geography of the standard ARK Island landscape making it about 70 sq. kilometers. The Center complements the current ARK biomes with a rich, hand-drawn Tolkien-esque aesthetic. Filled with stunning lighting effects, lava rivers, giant picturesque mountains, misty floating islands, ancient underground ice caves, and more, The Center is free for anyone who already owns ARK: Survival Evolved.

Drawn completely by hand without any auto-generated content, The Center uses its own save data, with separate options to reset the save data for each individual map.

Some of the amazing things to discover on the map include:

  • Floating Island
  • Edge of the world/GIANT waterfalls
  • A vast underground world with its own ecosystem/sun (Large enough to build huge cities in)
  • Lava Biome
  • Large underwater air bubbles found deep in the ocean for building bases in
  • Massive Ancient Ruins scattered throughout the world
  • Challenging End-Game Boss Encounters with Special Rewards!
  • Unique level design with tons of verticality
  • Features all of the regular ARK biomes from “The Island”
  • Vast Ocean Systems
  • Giant Ice caverns with etched out ice ruins
  • Lava caverns
  • Several unique cave systems, both regular and underwater

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 241.2

Changes

  • Reduced Wild Compy HP and Damage by 50%

Fixes & Improvements

  • Fixed various TheCenter structure placement, teleport, collision issues, dino difficulty curve, and dino spawns
  • TheCenter clients now work properly on Mac
  • Fixed general case where you could place structures within world geometry
  • Generated shadow distance field data for the rest of TheCenter world geometry meshes (sorry for the large one-time update!!)
  • Saved some RAM on non-ShaderModel5 platforms by discarding unneeded distance field data

Upgrade Existing Center-Map-ModServer to DLC-Server

  • TheCenter is included directly with the v241 server update. No need to download “DLC” for the server. We’ve reduced the server size drastically from about 30 GB down to 4 GB so yeah 😉 Just change your server commandline to host ?TheCenter rather than ?TheIsland or whatnot. No need to specify any Mod ID’s.
  • You shouldn’t have to do anything to get your old savedata to work on the new official map, should you have old savedata from a TheCenter mod server. However, given that foliage has changed and some geometry has changed, all foliage will likely reset and your bases may get overlapped by some geometry in certain places (though geometric changes were minimal).
  • If they don’t already have the DLC installed, when players attempt to join your server, they will be automatically prompted to install the free TheCenter DLC via the Steam Overlay. That’s pretty much it. The Anonymous ARK Dedi Server App and TheCenter DLC will be updated in tandem going forward, typically along Major version releases of ARK, so it will be much easier to keep the map in-sync if you host long-running servers.

Switching from The Center Mod to DLC

Some people having problems with deinstalling the Mod.  Here is a quick tutorial how to get the Center Map running 🙂

If you played The Center previously, you need to remove the mod in order for the DLC to function properly in these cases.

  1. Back your savings before proceeding with the steps 🙂
  2. Remove the mod ->
  3. Navigate to your mods folder.
\Steam\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Content\ModsDelete the folder and file named “614734500”.

241.1

SERVER ADMIN NOTE: There was an issue with v241.0 that caused Flyers to temporarily lose their Saddles and all Dinos to fall through Structures upon reloading. We strongly recommend all server admins upgrade to 241.1 as soon as possible, and consider a one-time rollback of their save data if their players were affected by use of 241.0. Accordingly for this reason, at 5:30pm Eastern on May 17, we rolled-back all the ARK Official Servers by approximately 2 hours.

  • Fixed critical issue with Flyer Saddles Disappearing and Dinos Falling thru Structures/Bases on game load.

Unravelling the Mysteries of the ARK: Ruins!

Various historical ruins will be found all across the ARK, we encourage survivors to go on adventures and seek them out as they hold the key into unlocking the secrets of the ARK, providing insight into its true nature! Through the hundreds of handcrafted notes and logs found at these locations, you’ll learn about the backstories of the Survivors in whose footsteps you follow, and what their fates may have been — or perhaps uncover the hidden recipes to powerful dishes, or even what the Wildcard devs drink to avoid sleeping 😛

Who knows! Intrepid Survivors will have to find out by going on the hunt to uncover them all — the first set of Ruins & Explorer Notes releases with the forthcoming Biome update! 😉
