Serverlist

serverlistA few days ago we published a Serverlist, which is not falsified by any premium ranking stuff. You can only get to the top of the list by voting / by pageviews.

We have splitted the server categories into these four:

1. PvP Server
2. PvE Server
3. Hardcore Server
4. Survival of the Fittest

To add your own server you have to create an account, you will be ask to do so after clicking on add your server.

How to copy/backup savegames

To copy a singleplayer savegame, you’ll have to first of all locate the directory where you have saved ARK. Usually, that’s

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ARK

However, if you have selected a different Steam Library during installation it might differ. In that case right-click on the game in your Steam Library, go to “Properties”, click on the “Local Files”-tab and click “Browse Local Files”. That will bring you to the folders for your game.

From now on we will assume that ARK points to your ARK-folder. There are three files that you will have to copy over

ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\SavedArksLocal\TheIsland.ark
ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\SavedArksLocal\LocalPlayer.arkprofile
ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\LocalProfiles\PlayerLocalData.arkprofile

Put those into the equivalent directories on your other device, and you’re ready to go!

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 187.0 – Patchnotes

These are the changes of ARK: Survival Evolved’s Patch 187.0, grouped into categories for clarity. If not otherwise indicated, they’re quoted from the relevant Steam Thread.

New Items / New Structures

  • Titanomyrmas: designed to ruin your sunday picnics!
  • Dimorphodons: designed to harass other dino riders!
  • Crossbow: use underwater to ping sharks from a distance!
  • Machined Shotgun: less powerful than primitive, but more shots before reload and tighter spread!
  • Double the number of dyes. You want Pink? You got Pink!

Dino Changes

  • Scorpions/Carrion eaters will now prefer to eat spoiled meat rather than raw meat after being Tamed
  • Stimberry consumption now reduces Food on Tamed dinos
  • Only Female Dinos lay eggs now — it had to happen 😉
  • Fixed Saber gender bits — heh, “fixed”

Game Changes

  • You can no longer level up sleeping allies (so mean)
  • You can unwire and rewrire placed traps — while leaving them placed and remembering what they were wired to — making it easier to leave your own base after setting traps up (we don’t want to make traps completely ignore you when wired, however, to avoid the incentive to turn your base into a zone of infinite numbers of traps)
  • You can no longer build for 30 seconds in the immediate damage radius where a structure has been destroyed by an enemy team (helps sieges play out more naturally)
  • There’s now an “attack that” whistle which will send all dinos in a nearby radius to attack the specific target you’re pointing at
  • In PvP, structures within caves/cave-entrances now take 6x damage
  • Auto Turrets track about 3x as fast, to be more effective
  • You can now light standing torches in shallow water
  • Grenade damage is reduced by 33% generally and an additional 33% vs dinos (so about -45% in total vs dinos)

UI Changes

  • You can now drink by pressing E when just standing in water, if there’s nothing else to activate. You don’t have to be immersed anymore.

Server Features

  • Custom servers can now specify whether they want downloadable individually: characters, items, dinos.
    ?PreventDownloadSurvivors=false?PreventDownloadItems=false?PreventDownloadDinos=false
  • Note: for custom Primitive Servers, there is a new Game.ini here.
  • [Split up]The PvP-Cave Structure multiplier can be set in the steamapps\common\ARK\Projects\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\Game.ini) as PvPZoneStructureDamageMultiplier=6.0
  • New Game.ini options:
    [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]
    bOnlyAllowSpecifiedEngrams=true/false

Defaults false. If true, any Engram not explicitly specified in the EngramsOverride list will be Hidden. Useful for maintaining primitive servers even as we add new Engrams in Updates.

Bugfixes

  • Keypads now work in densely packed bases (was a “too-many-overlaps” issue)
  • Fixed case of “invisible until you move” Structures on Client
  • Fixed losing Oxygen when swimming at water surface
  • The massive spam of “item removed etc” notification texts when viewing a dino’s inventory is now fixed
  • Industrial Grill now consumes gas properly

Performance

  • Approximate +25% Dedicated Server performance gain… PHYSX rewrite! >:-P — and nice client performance gain in dense cities as well!
  • Server Memory Leak analysis

Summary of ARK Digest #10 – Dino AI, Biomes and new Weaponry

Today the tenth edition of the ARK Digest was published on Steam. Here’s a summary of the most important news it contained.

New Biomes

A significant part of this weeks digest was taken up by an interview with Damien Bull, the Lead Level Designer of ARK. He described their development process for the map, and the long term plans for the interaction between biomes.

ARK Mammoth

Okay so creatures will follow you, how about the biomes? Can we ever see them interact with one another? For instance, would it be possible to see a snowy-effect in areas that are closed to the snow biome but aren’t actually a part of it?
You’ll definitely be able to see that, each biome surrounding affected areas will have a unique and interesting transition. Imagine snow-covered tropical jungles, partially frozen-rivers and glacial cliffs extending into the oceans! A lot of fun and exciting areas for you guys to potentially build bases around!

He reiterated that the upcoming swamp biome will be “by far the largest change to [the map] to date.”

Dino AI

Unlike their real-world counterparts most dinos on the island don’t take much notice of the day-night-cycle at the moment. This is going to change soon.

[Y]ou may encounter a sleeping Diurnal creature at night, or vice-versa. It’ll allow you the opportunity to get a jump on them, beware though as they’ll wake up if disturbed and might not be so happy with you ruining it’s sleep!

Moreover, bigger changes in the Dino AI are scheduled to arrive next moth. Among the many interesting features that were announced were “sensory-based targeting” and customized behavoir for different dino species.

“Who’s a good dino?” will probably also be heard more often soon, as a new “Pat”-emote is going to arrive soon. Not only will it allow you to reward your cute sabretooth for its exemplary performance, it’ll actually have tangible effects. Patted Dinosaurs will temporarily gain a multiplier on EXP-earning.

Weaponry

Players of ARK can already have their pick of a veritable arsenal, but there are more weapons coming still. In two weeks something along the lines of a bear-trap is going to arrive, giving players the opportunity to lay traps for dinos.

For those who prefer a more active approach to combat, there is a whole range of toys in the works: Knives, swords, ballistas and other siege tools are coming “soon”.

Smaller News

  • Cameo Clothing, a Stone Behemoth Gate (particularly interesting for primitive servers), another grill and a gaslight lantern will be added in the future.
  • Per-Pixel painting could be extended to other things, like dinosaurs and player characters, if it is well received.
  • Building on the ocean floor is another gameplay element that will be extended in the future.
  • You can already drop items quickly by clicking on them in the inventory and pressing “O”.

Dino Dossier: Achatina – Snail

Today’s new Dossier shows the Achatina, a pre-historic snail. It will continually release cementing paste when tamed, though it won’t be rideable. Those survivors who prefer a more rustic experience will also have a chance to experience a true Bear Grylls moment, when they’re hungry enough to go hunting snails for what little meat they offer.

Common Name: Achatina
Species: Achatina limusegnis
Time: Holocene
Diet: Herbivore
Temperament: Passive
Domestication
Tameable: Yes
Rideable: No
  • Wild: Found mostly in marshes and jungles, Achatina Limusegnis is a very slow, very non-threatening land mollusk. It might be the safest creature on the island to hunt and while it only provides a small amount of meat and chitin, an easy meal is always good on the island.
  • Domesticated: There is a very disgusting, but useful, fact about Achatina that causes tribes to seek to tame them: its secretions are chemically similar to the 'Cementing Paste' used by many tribes for building materials. Tamed Achatina naturally build up this slime over time, which can then be collected at the tribe's convenience.
  • Known Information: Unlike nearly every other creature on the island, Achatina does not defecate normally. Instead, it secretes a thick sticky substance. Achatina leaves trails of this slime, but the trails are so thin that they crumble to dust quickly.

Drops

  • Raw Meat
  • Chitin

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 186.3 – Patchnotes

These are the changes of ARK: Survival Evolved’s Patch 186.3, grouped into categories for clarity. If not otherwise indicated, they’re quoted from the relevant Steam Thread.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed a server-side Inventory crash — thank you for the help, players of Official PvE 36!

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 186.2 – Patchnotes

These are the changes of ARK: Survival Evolved’s Patch 186.2, grouped into categories for clarity. If not otherwise indicated, they’re quoted from the relevant Steam Thread.

Dino Changes

  • After being successfully Tamed, Tamed Dinos will now bias towards consuming the least-nutritious food in their inventory (that is still edible by them). Thus for example a carnivore will eat all inferior Raw Meats before eating Prime Meat within its Inventory, making it more viable to store high quality food on your Dinos over lengthier periods of time for the long haul.
  • Put all meats taming speeds/values exactly where they originally were. Made Kibbles 40% faster for Taming than Raw Meat ever was, and it’s got SUPER AFFINITY (if you use the right kind of Kibble for your Dino — for example Raw Prime Meat may net you a 70% effective tame now, whereas using the right Kibble can get you close to 100%!). May continue to buff Kibble, but let’s take it one step at a time with seeing how useful it is now 🙂

Bugfixes

  • Fixed an issue replicating network data on Structures (Sign strings, etc)
  • Fixed a general issue placing structures (mortar and pestle, crop plot, etc)
  • Metal Water Tank is now buildable again ;-P
  • Fixed a client connection Timeout case
  • Fixed edge case where players weren’t quite recovering enough Oxygen when popping head above water at lower server FPS

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 186.1 – Patchnotes

These are the changes of ARK: Survival Evolved’s Patch 186.1, grouped into categories for clarity. If not otherwise indicated, they’re quoted from the relevant Steam Thread.

Game Changes

  • Allied Dinos are now immune to your Gas Traps
  • Made Eggs about 200% more likely to be found, and they now last for 8 days in regular inventory, rather than 2 — store them in a Fridge to keep them nearly forever.
  • Rebalanced some taming speeds: Raw Prime Meat is 70% as fast as it was originally, and appropriate Kibble is now as fast as Raw Prime Meat originally was. (non-Prime meats are the same speed as originally, as is the non-nutritious Cooked Prime Meat)
  • Disallowed engrams/items are now automatically destroyed on primitive servers (or any server which uses a custom item list), retroactively. Primitive Servers online again.

Server Features

  • Updated & posted new Server Game.ini for Primitive Servers to correspond to new Engram layout. In the future, we will change this to name-based list rather than indexed list, so it will not become outdated again.

Bugfixes

  • You can place the Preserving Bin again.
  • Fixed a server inventory-related crash with the Multi-Grill
